Condie, Ally. Matched. New York: Scholastic, 2010. Print.

Matched, by Allie Condie, is a science fiction book set in the future. So far in the story, the main character Cassia is on her way to her Match Banquet where she will learn who she will be placed with for the rest of her life. She is nervous and excited about the Banquet and happy that her best friend Xander is going with her.

The novel is written in first person point of view. I can tell because all of the protagonist’s thoughts and feelings are shared. Also, the explanative portion of the dialogue uses 1st person pronouns, such as I, me, or my.
“ ‘What are you smiling about?’ Xander wonders as I smooth the folds of my green silk dress down neat. ‘Everything,’ I tell him. And it’s true” (Condie 3).

Oliver, Lauren. Before I Fall. New York: Harper teen, 2010. Print.

Before I Fall is about this girl named Sam and she is reliving the day she died over and over again for a week until she finds out waht happened to her. She has the most popular best friends in school. Sam and her best friends go to this party and the girl that they always pick on is there, Juliet. She has come to tell them how mean and selfish they are. After that everthing went horribly wrong. Her best friend, Lindsay was driving them home and then they crashed into some thing. Juliet flung herself in front of the car and went flying.

This book is in first person point of view. The main character, Sam, is telling the story. I can tell because Sam's feelings and ideas flooded into this book. " In that split second she's launched herself into the road, but she looks back, startled, recognition lighting up her eyes," (Oliver 468).

Sonnenblick, Jordan. “After Ever After”, New York: Scholastic, 2010. Print.

My book “After Ever After” is about is far (only on page 27) a boy named Jeffery. He is an eight grader that has survived cancer. Jeff talks about his best friend Tad and how he met him. Jeff met Tad in the fourth grade. They both had an unfortunate dieses and grow a strong friend ship in the years to come. Then in the story Jeffery talks about how he saw a girl and it was a “love at first sight” type of thing. He saw her and was kind to her and in class repeatedly dowsed off gazing into her eyes.
This book is written in first person point of view. The story is told by Jeffery and that is why I believe this story is funny. The story is vert good so far and I believe that this book is going to be better than the first book. (Drums Girls and Dangerous Pie) I recommend this book to all people that have a sense of humor. An example f=of first person is: “I don’t think she knew what to say” (Sonnenblick 13).

Comment to Mrs. Evans what time period is your book in because I have never herd the name Xander before.

Selznick, Brian. The invention of Hugo Cabret. New York: Scholastic Press, 2007. Print.

The invention of Hugo Cabret, by brian Selzinick is set in 1931, mainly in a paris train station. So far in the story, the protagonist hugo has lost his father in a fire and moved in with his uncle who treats him porly, and is very unsensitive to hugo's lose. hugo's unle was a clock worker, he taught hugo all his skills. one day his uncl dissappeared, leaving hugo plenty of time to work n his automaton. one day he noticed a key on a girl he often saw and he stole it to see if it fit into his machine and it did...

this book is written in third person point of veiw. i know this because bobody's thoughts are in the book, on dialog. "he put the key in the heart-shaped hole in the middle of the mechanical man's back.he had been right. it fit perfectly." (Selznick 233)

Sonnenblick, Jordan. Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie. New York: Scholastic Press, 2004. Print

My book "Drums, Girls, and Dangerous pie" is about a buy who's younger brother is diagnosed with cancer. So far Steven, the thirteen year old buy, has had a normal life, but now his brother is diagnosed with cancer after complaining about his bones hurting, and now Steven looks at life completely differently. The only time he can get his brother off of his mind is when he is playing drums.

This book is written in a first person point of view, and I know this because Steven, who is the main character, says "There's a beautiful girl to my left" (Sonnenblick 1), and if this book was written in third person, it would say "There's a beautiful girl to Stevens left".

Doswell,Paul. “The second world war.” New York: Scholastic inc , 2003.Print.

This week in my book the author talks about trying to crack the secret German code. The code was mostly used on battleships. The author also talks about sinking a battleship. The British navy tracks down a German battleship and sinks it. “Many had nightmares, and men woke up screaming or sobbing.” ( Doswell 28) This quote shows how afraid the soldiers on the Bismarck ship were from being tracked.

This book is in first person point of view. I know this because the Book is non- fiction.

McBride, Lish. Hold Me Closer, Necromancer. New York: Henry Holt and Company, LLC, 2010. Print.

The summary of what I have read this week is about a guy named Sammy, who works at Plumpy’s, a fast food restaurant with his three friends, Brooke, Ramon, and Frank. When an angry, mysterious man walks into the restaurant, explaining how his headlight was smashed with a potato ( his car was a victim of their earlier match of potato hockey), Sammy tries to explain to the man how the spot his car was parked at was a ‘park at your own risk’ area. The man gets angry at Sam, asks for his name, throws him to the ground, and walks out. Later that night, when Brooke leaves and Sam is walking out of the door, a gigantic man with bulging muscles approaches him, and beats him up. It turns out that Douglas, or the mysterious man who had walked in earlier, had wanted to have the big man give Sam a message, not to beat him up. That message was to meet him somewhere so he could talk about private business. So, he follows Brooke home, where he cuts of her head (which is still breathing and talking), puts it in a box with a note telling Sam to meet with him, and leaves it at Sam’s door. This book is in 1st person. A line from the text states, “Tucked into the corner was a piece of expensive looking stationery that had been folded in half. All it said in a loose sprawling cursive was ‘Two o’clock, Woodland Park Zoo, Asia Exhibit. Come Alone, Or they’ll be another message’ “ (McBride54).

When she finally agrees to meet her friend, Cali, she thinks she seeing Jackson in the bathroom mirror. When she gets home, Ava cannot sleep. When Ava goes to the kitchen to get hot chocolate she sees and hears Jackson.
This book is written in 1st person. Ava is telling the story. “I go to the bathroom and stare into the mirror.” (Schoeder 50). Since Ava is the main character and refers to herself as “I” this story is written in 1st person.

Westerfeld, Scott. Uglies. New York: Simon Pulse,2005.

So far in the book, Uglies, Tally misses her best friend Peris so much that she decides to go to New Pretty Town to see him. The difference between Uglies and Pretties is that Uglies are ugly until they are 16 years old, and Pretties are turned that way at sixteen. Both types of people aare separated into two towns. When Tally goes to see Peris doesn't get noticed and meets up with Peris without him knowing she was coming. They talk about how they are still and always will be best friends, when Tally turns pretty. Eventually Tally has to leave and escapes the Garbo Mansion (where Peris and all the new pretties live) to the bridge where she met Shay. From there they have to find out how to get back across the river without getting caught. "Her name was Shay. She had long dark hair in pigtails, and he eyes were too wide apart" (Westerfeld 28).

Collins, Suzanne. Mockingjay. New York: Scholastic Press, 2010. Print.

I started Mockingjay this week, and so far Katniss is recovering from her concussion that she received in the Quarter Quell. Katniss is still having trouble remembering everything that happened to her, but she has to start with the simple ideas and improve her thoughts. Katniss has been asked by Plutarch Heavensbee and President Coin, of District 13, to be their Mockingjay for the war against the Capitol. At first Katniss did not accept, but with the thought of Peeta and so many other people suffering, Katniss became District 13’s Mockingjay. Katniss felt that her job was to fight for the people who always believed in her.

This book is told in first person point of view, the view point of Katniss. I know this book is told in first person because Katniss, the main character, refers to herself and she uses words such as I, me, and my. “I tug up my sleeve and hold my arm next to his,” (Collins 51).

Riordan, Rick. The Lost Hero. New York: Disney Hyperion Books, 2010.

In my book this week, the group of Leo, Jason, Piper, and Coach Hedge the satyr, leave King Midas’s mansion and set out to the fortress of Aeolus. The group ends up stopping in a cave to get Piper back to health after Midas froze her and gave her hypothermia, but then, Lycaon, God of the Wolves, brings himself to the makeshift camp of the demigods and the satyr with his pack of wolves, when the hunters, led by Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt, drive Lycaon away. Jason also learns that he can speak Latin by communicating with the Wolf King. Jason also realizes that Thalia, his real sister, is a hunter and met her for the first time and had to leave her a little while later, as they climb to the top of Pike’s Peak and are forced to split up at the entrance to the fortress of Aeolus, as the ice bridge melts due to Leo and his fire powers. As they enter the place of the God of the Winds, they have no idea what to expect.

I think that the point of view in the story is 3rd person. I can tell because the narrator uses the expressions “he” and “she.” Most of the books by Rick Riordan are based off of a 3rd person perspective. “Jason had found his sister and lost her in less than an hour”(Riordan 404).

Mrs. Evans, I wonder who Cassia will be matched with and how the outcome of the matching will effect her!

This week I read about the main character, Symone, and her life. She lives with her mother and her “uncle” Victor. Sym loves anything to do with the Polar Regions. Her uncle was taking her and her mother on a trip to Paris, until Sym’s mom “lost” her passport. Sym and Victor had soon arrived in Paris, when Victor told Sym where they were actually going. “We’re going to Antarctica! Think of it, Titus! The Antarctic!” (McCaughrean 34). This story is written in the first point of view. I can tell because the book uses words like “I”, “my”, and “our”. Also, it makes personnel connections to Sym’s past. “After junior high, Victor thought I ought to be home-schooled. Apparently, Dad said no: He saw quite enough of me already.” (McCaughrean 41).

Hinton, S.E. The Outsiders. Canada: Penguin Putnam Inc., 2003. Print.

I just started The Outsiders and so far, I have meet a boy named Ponyboy, who is in a group of guys that are called "greasers". The greasers always are provoked by another group called the "socs" short for socials; who are sobby rich kids. Unlike the greasers, who are poorer kids from the east side. Ponyboy is one of the youngest in the group and therefore is the center of violence from the socs. One day while walking home, Ponyboy gets jumped by the socs. They pulled a knife to his head and threatened to cut his hair off, as well as, slice his neck. As they were about to cut him, the members of the greasers came to Ponyboy's rescue. His brothers, Darrel and Soda Pop, along with Two-bit, Steve, Dally and Johnny saved Ponyboy's life.

This book is told in 1st person point of view. I can tell this by Ponyboy's narration. He uses words such as: I,he,we and they. "And nobody in our gang digs movies and books the way I do. For a while there, I thought I was the only person in the world that did" (Hinton 2).

Levine, Ellen. Catch a Tiger By the Toe. New York: Vicking, 2005. Print.

The book I have been reading this week is , Catch a Tiger By The Toe. This book is about a girl name Jamie. Jaime is an average person on the outside but has a dirty little secret on the inside. She talks about how if her friends ever found out her secret; she would have to run away forever. Also, she talks to her mom asking if the FBI is going to come and get her. Her mom tells her not to worry, but she still has a little feeling inside. “Could they do something bad to us?”(Levine 22). Also during the beginning of the book, Jaime is in the park playing with her friends and then a strange car pulls up. Then, they started asking her some questions and she runs away. After this is when her mother starts telling her to ignore the FBI.
I believe that the book is told in first person. I believe this because the main character, Jaime, uses the words I, me, and my. In the book she is referring to herself. “I wanted to pull the covers up over my head” (Levine 22). If the book was told in she, he, you form, then it would be in third person point of view.

Condie, Ally. Crossed. New York: The Penguin Group, 2011. Print.

So far this week I read the beginning of Crossed, the sequel to Matched. In this science fiction novel everything is decided for you in Society. Two seventeen year olds, Cassia and Ky, are deeply in love. However Ky, an aberration, isn't allowed to love Cassia and she cannot love him. Their feelings get these two into trouble and now each of them are separated, struggling to survive. Cassia is in a camp away from her family. Cassia left her friends, and past love Xander back home. She decided this on her own will in an attempt to be reunited with Ky. She has high hopes for finding him outside Society's walls. As she does so, Ky is fighting in battle as a soldier trying to not get killed. Ky was taken away from his family by force to join the army. So far, he is sitting around the Outer Provinces in a holding camp, and has already said good-bye to a fellow passed soldier. His General believes this is how aberrations are supposed to end. "We have to hide the body because we're not supposed to die in this holding camp. We're supposed to wait until they send us out to the villages so the enemy can take care of us there. It doesn't always work that way"(Condie 4-5).

In Crossed, the story is told in 1st person point of view. However, this book is unique when it comes to its point of view. Each chapter alternates the narrator between Cassia and Ky. All the odd chapters are narrated by Ky, and all of the even chapters are narrated by Cassia. I can tell this story is told in 1st person point of view because terms like "we" and "I" are used by both protagonists. "Except me. I came home. The Outer Provinces are where i once belonged" (Condie 18).

To: Mrs. Evans
I really think that you will enjoy that book. I am currently reading the second book in the series. I know you like science fiction, and Matched has become one of my favorite stories ever! In my opinion, the plot line gets better as the story progresses. Also, sorry if my blogs give away certain events from the first book.

These girls run the school. Claire just moved in and she is just trying to fit in, but Massie and her clique make it hard for her to do so. Massie's family wants her to get to know Claire and become friends with her. The point of view is in 3rd person because nobody is talking its a narrator talking. "Claire thought it was better to lie than to hurt Layne's feeleings"(Harrison, Lisi 15). That shows that there is a narratpr because he says the peoples names and doesn't say he, she, or I.

The lady in Stacey's dream is Porsha's mother who passed away when Porsha was about 7. All she wants is too connect with Posha and tell her it wasn't her fault that now shes dead. Stacey thinks the boy in Porsha's Jacob, so she works with Porsha trying to see what her nightmars are trying to tell her. In her dream a boy is going to die, it happens to be in the same area Jacob went missing at. So they hurry to go to some camp and they find two boys, Trevor and Jacob. They save them from being killed, however Jacob was brainwashed and doesn't remember his past. Stacey calls his parents and he goes home, and Porsha's father fosters Trevor since his mother wants nothing to do with him. Stacey goes back to collage and calls Jacob on the phone and they talk, he finally remembers her. I finished this book.

This story is in first person point of view. The main character Stacey is telling the story. I know this because she never says her own name. Instead she says I, me and my. Also her thoughts are shared and not any one elses. "I nod and look away-into my stash of spell suplies"(stolarz79)

If you were in Katniss's position would you be able to handle it? Like doing all that work by your self to feed yourself and others?
